UACCB Foundation hosting Bunco Blitz

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Foundation will hold its annual Bunco Blitz on Tuesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. at Elizabeth's.

The theme of this year's event is the Roaring 20s.  Costumes are optional; however, a prize will be awarded to the Best Dressed.

Proceeds from the event will support the UACCB Kids' College program.

Registration is $25 and includes fun, food, prizes and more.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s Business, Technology and Public Service Division will offer a special topics course during the upcoming fall semester entitled Financing for Life. This one hour credit course will meet Mondays, 4:30-5:30 pm with instructor, Mr. James C. Johnson, MSW, LCSW, MBA.

Lyon College hosting Outdoor, ACT prep camps

Lyon College in Batesville will host two Outdoor and ACT Prep Camps this summer.

The first camp will be held June 2-5.  The second camp is scheduled for June 9-12.

The camps will give students the opportunity to learn how to raise the ACT scores.

They will receive specialized ACT instruction from Stephen A. Leake, president of College Prep Coach, Inc.  Leake has more than 20 years of experience in high school education and standardized test preparation.

ASUMH honors Sally Gilbert

ASUMH honors Sally Gilbert

Arkansas State University-Mountain home recently recognized Sally Gilbert for her service on the ASUMH Advisory council.

Gilbert, who has served on the council since 2007, was recognized for her leadership, dedication and support for the past six years which is the maximum number of years of service for members.

Gilbert is the Senior Vice President of Business Development at Liberty Bank.  She is also a board member of the Donald W. Reynolds Library serving Baxter County.

Arkansas State University-Newport announced Friday the following people have been awarded the ASUN Academic Freshman Scholarship for the Fall 2013 semester:

On Saturday, May 11, almost 2,000 students will graduate Arkansas State University.  Bill Carter will deliver the commencement address.

Carter, who was inducted as one of ASU’s Distinguished Alumni in 2011, is described as a “legend in the music business world and one of the driving forces behind the restoration of the boyhood home in Dyess of the late singing great Johnny Cash.” He produced the first two Johnny Cash Music Festivals.
