Elderly motorcyclist injured in crash

An 81-year-old Mountain Home man was injured Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.

The accident happened at 1:15 p.m. on State Highway 178, west of Flippin.

According to Corporal Clinton L. Evans of the Arkansas State Police, Sammy J. Abbott was traveling west when he failed to negotiate a left turn curve.

Abbott’s 2000 Yamaha 650 veered off the road into the ditch.  The bike traveled approximately 21 feet before hitting a road sign and overturning.

Cpl. Evans reported Abbott fell off the motorcycle and hit a rock embankment with his body and head.

Abbott was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home with unknown injuries.
