Lyon College opts out of concealed carry law | News
Lyon College in Batesville has joined a growing list of Arkansas colleges and universities opting out of a concealed carry law.
The board of trustees voted recently to opt out of ACT 226, which allows faculty and staff with concealed carry permits to have handguns on campus. The bill allows institutions to opt out.
State Representative Charlie Collins of Fayetteville introduced the bill and Governor Mike Beebe signed it into law on March 1.
In May, the University of Arkansas and the Arkansas State University systems voted to opt out. Currently, no colleges in the state permit concealed weapons on campus.
