A Region 8 man was charged with careless driving following a head-on collision that sent a woman to the hospital.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 62 at Erma Lane in Baxter County.
According to Trooper Paul Fry of the Arkansas State Police, 25-year-old John E. Shrum of Cotter was traveling west on Hwy. 62 when his 1996 Chrysler Sebring crossed the center turning lane into the path of a 2000 Saturn driven by 44-year-old Beverly M. Quintana of Flippin.
Quintana attempted to avoid the collision but was unable, according to the report.
Following the impact, Shrum’s car spun around in the road before coming to a stop on Erma Lane. Quintana’s vehicle left the road, stopping against a rock wall on the shoulder.
Quintana was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
In addition to careless driving, Shrum was charged with crossing the center lane and no proof of insurance.
