Stolen cell phone leads police to burglary suspect | Crime
White County sheriff’s deputies used the GPS in a stolen cell phone to track down a man suspected of burglarizing a home.
The burglary happened Wednesday on Highway 157 in the Judsonia area. About $4,000 worth of jewelry and electronics were stolen, including a cell phone.
Shortly after the crime was reported, deputies learned the home’s owner was using the phone’s GPS to track its location.
That information led deputies to America’s Best Value Motel, 107 N. Rand Dr. in Searcy where they found the cell phone and 34-year-old Johnny Whaley, Jr. in one of the rooms.
According to a news release from Corporal Steve Hernandez of the White County Sheriff’s Department, in addition to the stolen property, investigators also found a “box containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine and several items of drug paraphernalia.”
Whaley was arrested on the drug charges and taken to the White County Detention Center where he is being held on $50,000 bond. Formal charges for the stolen property are pending following a full investigation.
