Investigators: Fire set to hide burglary | Crime
Independence County sheriff’s investigators say a trailer fire might have been the work of a thief.
On Monday a mobile home located in the 3900-block of White Drive went up in flames.
After the fire was doused, it was discovered that three flat-screen TVs and three computers, along with $12,000 worth of gold jewelry and $1,500 cash had been stolen from the home.
According to the initial police report, the owner—who was away when the fire started—said that his home had been broken into before by the same person.
He told investigators a man driving a 2004 white Chevy pickup truck has robbed the home three times. He said the man comes in the morning after everyone leaves for work.
