Suspect pleads guilty to shooting man in back of the head | Crime
A Region 8 man accused of shooting another in the back of the head was sentenced to 37 years in prison Tuesday for the crime.
Christopher Bryant, 25, of Salem pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and murder in the second degree.
The fatal shooting happened early on the morning of January 5 near Ash Flat.
According to an email from Henry H. Boyce, prosecuting attorney for the Third Judicial District of Arkansas, Bryant and Severin Simpson, 27, of Batesville were riding around with two women.
As Simpson drove, Bryant pulled out a gun and shot Simpson in the back of the head.
Bryant then fled the scene, Boyce said. He was arrested later that day in Sharp County following an extensive manhunt.
Battery and criminal mischief charges were filed against Bryant following an incident at the Sharp County Jail on January 21 when he fought with a law enforcement officer and attempted to escape the jail, Boyce said.
