Mom charged after newborn tests positive for drugs | Crime
A Region 8 inmate faces additional charges after investigators say her newborn baby tested positive for drugs.
Elyssa K. Turner, 28, of Mountain Home is charged with introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another, a Class B felony.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, when the baby was born in January it suffered from withdrawals from chronic drug abuse. The infant had to be treated in the hospital for 30 days.
Montgomery said Turner admitted to state child welfare investigators she had consumed hydrocodone during her pregnancy. She did not have a prescription.
Sheriff’s investigators obtained a bench warrant for Turner’s arrest, which was served on her Friday at the jail where she was being held on failure to appear and probation/parole violations.
Her bond was set at $25,000. Turner was also charged with being a habitual offender.
