Teen charged with vandalizing church | Crime
Nearly a year after a Region 8 church was vandalized, investigators have a suspect in custody.
Last July someone broke into and trashed the Old Arkana Church, 10919 Highway 201 South.
Baxter County sheriff’s investigators said the fellowship hall and two classrooms were ransacked and profanities were spray painted on the walls. The damages and cleaning costs were estimated at $15,000.
Investigators collected evidence at the scene, including DNA samples taken from two cigarette butts, and sent them to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis.
On Friday, Sheriff John Montgomery announced a 15-year-old suspect had been arrested.
The juvenile, who was not identified because of his age, is charged with breaking or entering and criminal mischief. The child has been turned over to Baxter County Juvenile Services.
