Woman accused of stealing from school lunch program | Crime
A Region 8 school employee is accused of stealing thousands from the district’s lunch program.
According to court records, Christina Ann Cox, 45, is accused of stealing $11,630 from the Southside Public School District in Independence County.
Investigators say Cox, who was the school’s food service director, began taking money from the district’s lunch program in 2010.
School officials discovered the missing money when they noticed a discrepancy in the year-to-year bank deposits.
During the 2011-2012 school year Cox made 52 deposits. The following year she made only 15 deposits, according to the affidavit.
School officials then contacted the Department of Legislative Audit which concurred that the money was “receipted and posted by Cox to two individual accounts.”
On April 4, Arkansas State Police began investigating the report and, according to court documents, concluded ”Cox was responsible for the loss.”
On May 29 a judge found probable cause to charge Cox and she was arrested.
Cox is currently free on bond awaiting her next court appearance.
