Domestic dispute leads to felon's arrest | Crime
A convicted felon wound up back behind bars after deputies found a rifle in her home.
Janice F. Smith, 58, of Lakeview was arrested Sunday night after Baxter County sheriff’s deputies were called to her home on a domestic disturbance call.
While investigating the disturbance, Deputy Tracy Munson learned that Smith had a Remington .22 caliber rifle in a closet of her home, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Smith is a felon and is prohibited from owning or possessing a weapon.
Sheriff John F. Montgomery stressed the gun was not used during the disturbance.
Smith was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by certain persons. She was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center where she was booked in lieu of $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court on April 25.
