Numerous charges filed against Mountain Home man | Crime
A Mountain Home man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he stole a car and wrecked it a short time later.
Baxter County sheriff’s deputies arrested 20-year-old John Eric Saathoff on charges including residential burglary and driving while intoxicated, among others.
According to a news release from Sheriff John Montgomery, deputies were called to a home on County Road 916 shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday regarding the theft of a car.
The victim told officers she had just returned from the pharmacy with her son’s prescription when she heard her car leave the driveway.
The owner went to the door and watched Saathoff drive away, according to the sheriff.
The woman said Saathoff had to have come into her home to take the keys. She also noted that the newly-filled prescription for Vyvanse was missing 17 pills.
While taking the woman’s report, officers were called to an accident on Cannie Baker Road.
When Sgt. Charles Bost arrived at the scene he found Saathoff and the stolen car.
The car’s owner arrived to retrieve the vehicle, at which time she told police that $200 in cash was also missing from the vehicle. The missing pills were not found.
Saathoff was searched and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. During a second search, Sheriff Montgomery said jailers found a small lighter, cigarette pieces, suspected marijuana and two of the Vyvanse pills concealed in a body cavity.
Saathoff was charged with the following:
- Residential Burglary – Felony
- Theft of Property – Felony
- Theft of Property – Misdemeanor
- Possession of Controlled Substance – Felony
- Furnishing Prohibited Articles – Felony
- Driving While Intoxicated – Misdemeanor
- Careless Driving – Misdemeanor
- Driving While Licenses Suspended or Revoked – Misdemeanor
He’s being held in lieu of $15,000 bond with an appearance set in Baxter County Circuit Court on April 25.
