Sheriff: Man arrested after admitting to setting house on fire | Crime
What started as a fight between a couple ended with a house in flames and a man in custody.
According to Independence County Sheriff Steve Jeffery, on Friday deputies were called to a possible arson in Newark.
When officers arrived they found a woman standing on the porch while the house burned.
After removing the woman, the sheriff said Melvin Thompson approached a deputy and said “to place the handcuffs on him” because he had set the fire.
According to the sheriff’s news release, no one was seriously injured in the domestic disturbance.
Thompson was taken into custody and is being held pending formal charges by the 16th Judicial Prosecutor’s Office.
