18-year-old to graduate UA with triple major

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (AP) - Raymond Walter will bring home a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Arkansas this weekend with a triple major in mathematics, physics and economics - and he's only 18.

Walter graduated from Mountain Home High School when he was 14. He and his father, Hal, relocated to Fayetteville so Raymond could begin coursework at UA.

Hal serves as Raymond's caregiver because Raymond has a severe form of muscular dystrophy that requires him to use a motorized wheelchair.

5 animals die of infections at Arkansas refuge

GASSVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Three horses and two donkeys at a north Arkansas animal refuge have died from suspected botulism.

Rocky Ridge Refuge founder Janice Wolf says the animals likely contracted the infection from a hay bale that may have contained a dead rodent. Wolf tells The Baxter Bulletin (http://bit.ly/12lwOmC ) that all five had lived at the refuge for years.

American Legion charter suspended after Kensett shooting, brawl

KENSETT, AR (KAIT/AP) – The American Legion charter in Kensett has been suspended indefinitely after a teenager was shot during a private graduation party at the facility over the weekend.

A spokesman for the American Legion Department of Arkansas says all American Legion signs must be removed from the facility in Kensett.

Cleburne Co. teen killed in one vehicle crash

HEBER SPRINGS (KAIT) - A Heber Springs teenager is dead after a one vehicle accident Thursday night.

According to Arkansas State Police, 16-year old Natalie Tvedten was driving west on Arkansas Highway 210 in Heber Springs at a high rate of speed when her truck left the road and flipped several times.

Tvedten was ejected from the pick up truck she was driving.

No one else was hurt in the wreck.

Mother teaches sun safety after beating skin cancer

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Tracy Roberts teaches third grade at
Valley View Intermediate School in Jonesboro, where she's tried to teach her
students healthy habits like protecting themselves from the sun.

"If just one person listens, that's all anybody can hope
for," Roberts said.

Roberts, a mother of three, found an irregularly shaped spot
on her leg almost four years ago. She decided to have it checked out only after
her father had a cancerous lesion removed from his back.
