Elementary school focusing on health in curriculum

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT)- According to
the CDC, 66 percent of Arkansans are overweight, but there may be hope at one
Region 8 school who has incorporated health and wellness into their
curriculum. 

Eagle Mountain Magnet Elementary School in
Batesville received a national award last year for their efforts in creating a
healthier school for their students. The school has been deemed a Health and
Wellness Magnet School.

Eagle Mountain Magnet is one of 250
schools across the nation that was honored at the Healthy Schools Program
Forum last fall.

Harding University opts out of concealed-carry law

SEARCY, AR (AP) - Harding University has opted out of a state law that allows faculty and staff members to carry concealed guns on campus.

Harding spokesman David Crouch says the private school already has a no-weapons policy in place in campus. He says the school's board of trustees voted to continue that long-standing policy and not allow any weapons on campus.

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT)-A man was caught speeding 57 miles over the limit Wednesday near Lakeview.

Deputy Doug Meurer noticed a vehicle traveling towards him on Highway 178 at a high rate of speed. He clocked the vehicle on his radar going 112 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour speed zone.

The vehicle did not stop when Deputy Meurer activated his blue lights and proceeded to speed past him. Meurer gave a description of the vehicle to the Baxter County Dispatch, but was not able to catch the suspect.   

Man arrested after police say he robbed store at knife point

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – The Independence County Sheriff's
Department has arrested a man they say robbed a store at knife point.

Investigators couldn't release many details about the
arrest, but did tell Region 8 News that the man in the surveillance video has
been caught.

Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday,
the man entered the Impulse Clothing Store, 109 E. Main St., and asked the clerk
for help finding some jewelry for his girlfriend, according to the report.
